"Voices from the Past"

 "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." - 2 Corinthians 10:5

I remember watching Captain Kangaroo when I was little.. I just loved that man. He was always so 'soothing', 'soft spoken' and 'encouraging'.... Mr. Rogers,.... The New Zoo Review (coming back at you !!!), and Romper-Room were other favorites...
However, I 'also' remember watching 'Dark Shadows', a soap opera from the late 60's....I didn't watch it a lot, (and I am sure I wasn't supposed to..) but I watched it enough to know it scared the 'living daylights' out of me.! When I got a little older, a movie entitled 'Sybil' sent me into a tailspin...really cannot elaborate on that.!!! It is enough to just recall !

Even now, 30-40 years later, if I dwell on some of these moments, feelings from then,.... can come floating back and be relived. Our mind is a powerful thing.  A sense of well being can calm me or a general feeling of uneasiness can claim my heart if left unattended. 

However, there are always 'take-aways'!!!!-things you can learn, from what you are going through, or have been through..
We always have a choice where we allow our mind and heart to dwell.

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you"-Philippians 4:8-9

So, today...capture every thought and hold it captive, make it obedient to Christ!!!

The voices of the past are just that. If they bring you peace, joy and growth then recall them with thankfulness.
If they take you to places that are dark and discouraging, then it is time to send them to prison, one by one. We are in a battle for the mind. God has given us the weapons, through Christ..to tear down the strongholds.

Begin today...  Listen to God's soothing, and often soft-spoken voice, by reading scripture, speaking it out loud, listening to music that re-focus's your mind on Him, and be encouraged....

"Watch over your heart with all diligence,
                                           For from it flow the springs of life." -Proverbs 4:23
