"Discipline and Determination"

I can remember, when I was young running at full speed around our farmhouse. I would race my brothers and sisters at a fast and furious rate of speed ( 'at least, in my mind'..)
My parents would be settled in on the front porch swings acting as the line judges. I was 'pretty quick' for the youngest of eight..I won some, and I lost 'some'..

Picture yourself....as a child running as fast as you can, you're turning corners, wind is whipping past your face..you can feel your leg muscles pushing the limits of gravity, as your breaths come in short bursts...you can feel the anticipation of the finish line,.....it is just around the corner...so you run faster..then you see it...
your legs pump harder...and then finally at an exhilarting speed.......you cross it..
You're finished !!...
Out of breath,!...gasping for air..
And, it's amazing !!!...
Everytime we would race, it was a chance to prove ourselves again. We would race each other and we would race for fun. Sometimes we would just race against the wind...

I often wonder, where the 'fierce determination' we once possessed as children,..'to win the race'....has run off to??
As we get older, we realize we are still running the race, but we have slowed quite a bit...and some have run off course. We recognize that our goals have changed.

Some of us are constantly running against our past.
Others are running in stops and starts towards our dreams.
Yet we all,..are running into eternity.

We each are, somewhere between a small child, racing around a farm house and an Olympian standing on a platform kissing the Gold medal !
How we long to finish well..The good news,...is that we still can! But we must decide again what is our end goal??

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly"1 Corinthians 9:24-25

The discipline and determination to 'run' lifes race with purpose begins,
with a single step forward...a step that propels us into the future.

No matter the race, no matter where you place...remember..the finish line is just around the corner..you will finish well..when you meet the end goal..
Discipline and determination are like two brothers honoring the other. They work hand in hand and will always have your back when you apply them to your life.
So keep on, keeping on...the finish line is just around the corner..
Don't give up and never give in..!!!

 "Getting Real with God':
We must confront the 'sometimes' that hold us back from racing to the finish and living life to the fullest with the truth of scripture..

*Sometimes we are just too tired..(read Isaiah 40:29-31)
*Sometimes the race seems too long. (read Phillipians 4:13)
*Sometimes, there is just no one there to cheer us on. (read Hebrews 12:1)
*Sometimes we forget who we belong to. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

"Talking with God":
Father, you know everything I am facing...I am tired and sometimes I just feel old...Please renew my spirit to run with you again. Help me to remember my dreams and to never give up. Give me discipline and determination to read the scriptures and study them so I can become spiritually fit to run the race you have set before me.
In Christ's name, Amen
