Tonight, I read a blog that a friend had written, about one of her daughters.
She was writing in response to something someone had written in fear, ignorance and hatred.
A letter that was intended to harm, belittle and isolate has become a catalyst for change.
(Only God can do that!!)
Now, it is my turn..
To speak...
My friend is raising a child with special needs. Her name is Grace...
She is special, and she does have needs. But her name, tells a different story.
As with many special needs'children and adults...what they endlessly give back
by far......
outweighs,...their needs.
For those with eyes to see...we do not see only their differences,
Instead, we look into their eyes and see their souls
knowing they were intricately woven in the womb...
Created to be one of His finest masterpieces'.
Oh for grace to really see....
When they speak...they sometimes speak a language we've not yet found.
But God hears, He understands and He listens...
and with a tender stroke...He gently brushes their cheeks and He smiles...
Most of us long for Grace in our lives,,,
Fortunately for all of us,....
my friend Stephanie invited Grace into hers, the day she was chosen for adoption..
Possibly,..it is a lack of recognition of this life giving Grace
that gives birth to fear, ignorance, and hatred.
Grace, literally means "unmerited favor".
According to the author of the original letter, people with special needs should be isolated..and expelled.
Sadly she doesn't really see, nor does she hear the brush of the angels' wings.
Sweet little Grace symbolizes what every special need child brings to this world...
''Unmerited favor''.....
And indeed,
we are blessed
to have been graced
by ''their presence''.....
The next time you notice someone with special needs...
have the grace to extend to them unmerited favor,
for truly that is the gift
they have already given you.
