"Buttered Bread or Sour Lemons"

It's true that sometimes..
'life hands you lemons'

But, it is also true, that sometimes you are served
sweet and juicy watermelon,
maybe a slice of warm home made pie
or fresh from the oven buttery bread---some true comfort foods.

This morning..
I was served what felt like comfort food....in the form of an unexpected surprise.

I was at work when my schedule changed and I was given an absolute paid in full, free day...a rare delight....

I had the freedom to choose how I would spend my time.
And I gratefully accepted the blessing.

Earlier in the day, I had asked God to show me which direction to take, when I came to a crossroad.
It was because I had asked and because I listened,
that I was in place to receive His gift.
I immediately recognized the connection.

The key to my day, was not...
simply that my schedule had changed, it was the fact that I had been praying for wisdom...praying that I would listen and know His voice.

Ecclesiastes 7:25a
"I turned my heart to know and to search out and to seek wisdom and the scheme of things."

This prayer had affected how I heard from my Heavenly Father.
Our heartfelt desire to be wise will always be honored.

Wisdom is a treasure in and of itself
It requires us to approach life with contemplation.
And it is in our contemplation that we finally find ourselves listening.

Some days you really do just get sour lemons, but...
more often than not.. its warm bread that He offers..
His goodness abounds,
blessings often in store, are just waiting.
Sadly, we miss them because of our own lack of obedience
and our lack of wisdom.

Just like today..if I hadn't been 'seeking' wisdom and been obedient to that still small voice, I would have missed what He had planned all along.

"God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:28-31
