"How to be Free"

Sometimes
when....the cell phone dies.....
The charger is broken.
And the computer goes down...
The skies suddenly become an endless blue, as the grass turns green beneath our feet.
We suddenly notice....
the air against our face.
We hear chirping again...and the pitter-patter of little feet.
At least, that's the way life seemed to unfold for me..when our electronics went out...all at once.
Freedom born in a moment.

What began as an annoyance gradually unfolded as gratitude.
I found myself enjoying my morning cup of coffee with my husband who never ceases to amaze me with his insight and humor....
I wasn't distracted...my cell phone was useless and the television was off.
I was blissfully in the moment.

Since that day..
I've been living much more deliberately.
The electronics can wait and the gadgets can happily sit untouched.

Life is just waiting to be savored. Delectable little moments will slip right past us...if we are always looking at a screen to feed our souls.

"This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it!"
Psalm 118:24

Will you choose to be glad and make a silent pact with me to lay down the 'stuff' that keeps us from breathing?

Christ lived a centered and focused life. His life mattered and He was destined to make it count. Likewise, we are called to do the same...
He expects no less of us...
than to seek to live in the moments He gives.

Looking deep into someones heart and listening intensely is a gift that each of us long for
and it is a gift each can give..
And yet, we cannot give...what we are not living.

I am so thankful, for the day our electronics disappeared.
Because that is the day,
I remembered.... how to live.

Application:
Pick one day a week to become technology free.
If that thought is too daunting....don't beat yourself up. Start with an hour and work your way up. You just might be surprised how much you've been missing.

Remember: Jesus lived a simple life.
And we are called to follow hard after His ways. And when we follow Him, we find freedom.
