I sat before Him helpless...as usual..
Knowing He was worthy and I was not..
It was early on a crisp autumn day.
And I was feeling all the moments of a week gone by.
A friend swept away in the middle of the night
and falsely imprisoned...left to sleep on a concrete floor, next to convicted criminals and addicts.for seven long, sleepless nights, while his wife worked nights and struggled to take care of their three children.
Finally, a court date and evidence that clearly defined his innocence. His only crime was in sharing the same last name.
Sound like the beginning of a biblical account....the stuff that screen plays are made of?
You hear of it happening, but to watch it unfold before you, is surreal.
I can only imagine the stress to have actually lived in this field of unknown...
Our friend was in good company...though separated by centuries. The apostles, and namely, Paul the apostle also carried another's last name, he carried the name of Christ.
And it made him a target.
It all began when he took pity on a slave girl, and cast a demon from her. This angered those who had been profiting from her 'spiritual' powers. (Acts 16:16-18) and what followed was an angry stirring within the city, beatings and imprisonment.
The apostle Paul is a beacon to those who have been falsely accused. He spent a total of 5 1/2-6 years receiving beatings and false imprisonments, at different times in his missionary journeys'. Ultimately, ending with his death, by beheading in 68 A.D.
Have you ever been faced with false accusations.
Are you in a struggle to clear your good name.
Rest assured.
There will come a day that those who accuse
They were identified by His name. And they spent much time in prison,
(Acts 5:17-18)
I don't know where he and his family will take this from here. That is between them. What I do know, is that from the moment it all began, they were being held in prayer.
